Tech Realm (The Honorable Thief)

So after some time off working on other projects at University and in my own time Tech Realm has undertaken some serious thought conceptually. The idea i believe is ready!!

Now before expanding too much a recent on conceptual changes i first must say that a chance has  arised to make the first steps into bringing such a large idea into fruition. Tech Realm is apart of a universe that has the potential to be very big, but before making such a big step to developing something so huge, a smaller step should be first taken to ensure that this it the right time and is right idea. So given this the chance has arised to create a short film, this would be a great format to give the audience a first glimpse into this world. 2-3 minutes showing the Hub (Capital of Tech Realm) in a light that will reflect that planned for the games.

Short Film Synopses:

The synopses for this short is simple. Milo (The Games Main Character) is on the run after stealing something. As he flees in a very acrobatic style he eventually becomes cornered and is forced to fight his way out of trouble. Milo will escape before finally making back to home base, here he hands over the item he stole to two young children who open the Stolen vessel to reveal that the vessel contained food.

The Hook:
After the Title reveal and/or credits end, A shot of Milo opening an identical Vessel however this time it contains a Glowing Crystal. Milo's face intrigued.

The Tech-Realm

The game i am conceptualising is to be a free roaming game based in the world known as the Tech-Realm, a world based entirely inside a computer. Tech-Realm is a world centred around technology and at the heart of the world lay a grand city know as the HUB. There are a diverse number of tribes and settlements all over the Tech-Realm and are home to a variety of different inhabitants or all species and ethnicities.  Tech-Realm contains many people of different beliefs but fundamentally they all believe that they were created by a higher power.

The HUB is a giant city containing multiple levels graded by its height. Through out the city Technology lay embedded in everything.

At the very top of the city is the Starlight district, The Starlight district is a pristine part of the HUB containing new buildings, large parks, plant life, mesmerising city lights and the open sky free of buildings and vehicles interrupting the view. The Starlight district is home to the rich families and business workers of the HUB and is noticeable by the latest in technology use throughout the district.

Below the Starlight district is Market district. The market district is where the majority of the HUB go to shop, see entertainment and other recreational activities. The market district is divided into two sections the first sector is the main area where all gather for a variety of different trading opportunities, social activities and is usually always busy throughout much of the day. Sector two is the rundown part of the market district and a lot of most people avoid  it completely. Sector two is not without its uses. A lot of business is still carried, though most would say the business carried out there is of questionable standards and is usually kept under wraps. Sector two can also be a good source for resources, scrapes and other building materials of a higher quality if one knows where the look.

To the outer east section of the market district is the Industrial Zone. Here contains many large foundries, factories, warehouses and power plants that provide most of the supplies that are in demand all over the HUB and much of the Tech Realm.

The further down you travel into the HUB the tougher life is for the inhabitants. the mid levels of the HUB are nameless but to the upper classed inhabitant there known as the Slum or Trash of Tech Realm. The mid levels contain many poor and simple folk that live there with only the basic commodities to survive. The mid levels contain a lot of rundown and old businesses, abandoned warehouse, homes and many recreational places are in ruin. The people of the mid level district are friendly and very communal. Smaller shops, motels and other businesses are scatter thought out the mid level but are slowly going out of business due to the location.

Below the entire city is the sewers and city landfill this is know as the lower levels. Only a very small group inhabit the lower level and are usually riddled with sickness and disease. Not a nice place to be.

If there was a world or universe in a pc what would it be like?

This was a very interesting question to answer because I had to try and picture something that doesn't yet exist. Originally I picture a world that had a lot of basis around Computer GUI such as buildings that resembled window or folder in reference to the Windows Operating system. And the towns would sit in the heart of the Classic Desktop Background known as Bliss from windows XP.

As interesting and fun as this was to imagine, things didn't seem to mould well together and inhabitants for this kind of world would have been too different and not relatable to the player as they'd have to be a 100% new creature to work well with the environment and felt that for the game I'm trying to create it just wasn't what I was looking for.

I decided that imagining the environment first was the wrong way to go about this and that i should create the world around the characters in the story and make the environment suit them. I gathered some inspiration from one of my all time favourite characters "Spider Man/ Peter Parker". Peter is a smart kid, with a smart ass quirky sort of attitude. I relate well to the character which i think many people do and is why he is so love as a Superhero. I wanted to base traits of my main character off him while telling a story that brings out the good and bad Tech-realm.

It is now that i started to visualise the answer to the question i asked myself, "What would it be like".

A Brand New Idea

I've come up with a game idea that was sparked into existence initially by a documentary on Einstein's theory of relativity. The content of the documentary wasn't the inspiration but more so the graphics use to explain things visually. The graphic were very basic, colourful and made me think of computers and what it would be liked inside one, similar to Tron.

The thoughts lead to an idea of creating a game based inside a computer. From this I started asking myself different kinds of question that would need to be answered in order for this idea to work in my mind. Some of the questions I asked myself where things like:

If there was a world or universe in a pc what would it be like?

What would the inhabitants be and how would they live?

What are there believes?

What kinds of threats would they encounter.

And finally. How could I make this world relatable to the players so they don't feel as though there in a completely different and out there world.

With these in mind I can now start to create and perceive a universe that I can mould and immerse myself in to work on creating a story that I can show people this world, and immerse them into a unique gaming experience.
